Closing time…

That’s a wrap! I forgot what a mix of emotions comes with closing a show. On our final bow, I burst into tears. Thank you Seattle for an incredible run. It is always a kind of a double consciousness to share laughter with an audience while in character. I felt it in my bones that I needed to have some silliness and frivolity in my life and I could feel that the crowd did too. I’ll post pics and create a show page but here’s a backstage photo after our last show’s final bow. Here is our entire company including our understudies - special shout out to my cover Karen Skrinde who went on for me twice during the run!

Running the show!

It is the day of the show ya’ll! We are up and running this show. The critics don’t like the material (so I hear…) but the audience is loving the show- we are having bigger and bigger houses and the waves of laughs and the “Swiss watch” timing of it all with my castmates is a thrill. Just have to survive my foot injury and the tiredness of my body and voice. Theatre is so athletic- especially musicals! Holding on tight and it’s so wonderful to have so much support from community, family and the city that comes out and sees theatre. MWAH!

Something’s Afoot

After a looooong 5-year hiatus, I am finally going to do a play again! This is the longest I have been gone from the stage since I was 12 years old. A combo of Covid, canceled new work that was slated for 2021, menopause, marriage, happiness, and change…? Who knows?! All the things! I am thrilled to be onstage again in Something’s Afoot at the 5th Avenue Theatre. I am playing the lead role, Miss Tweed in this Agatha Christie spoof with some of the best actors in the city. It’s very rare that a 2000-seat theatre, Seattle's largest repertory theatre, does an acting ensemble show. They produce musicals and there are not many that are this intimate without a large chorus and big dance numbers. Performing a farce on a stage this big will be a challenge and I can’t wait to meet it. Come along for the ride and I will add pics as we go!

LAST DAY OF TECH!

Ready for the audience to show up!

TOGETHER- Coming Soon!

I have been recording music for 18 months now for an album that will be entitled “Together”. It is music from 30 years of collaborations with musicians from all over my artistic life- the cabaret world, the theatre scene, the rock clubs. It’s been a total joy putting it together. I recorded about a song a month just down the road from my house at Pete Remine’s Dubtrain Studio in West Seattle. I also got to record with an 18-piece orchestra at the wonderful non-profit studio Jack Straw, which was a total thrill.

There will be record release concerts this summer - a few of them to get a chance to play with all the musicians on different nights and look for the record in May/June. For a sneak peek at some of the artwork, check out what illustrator Kathryn Rathke and designer Corianton Hale are starting to put together for the visuals!
